THE MERCURY" WEATHER CHART
none Help
THURSDAY'S WEATHER
The chart of the 29th shows that the southern
disturbance on the previous day south
of Cape Leeuwin is moving rapidly across
the Bight. Its centre at 9 a.m. was to the
south of Eucla, and if it maintains the same
rate of progress it should reach the Victorian
and Tasmanian vvCFt coasts by the 26th. Its
approach will be heralded by freshening
northerly winds, with increasing cloud,
gradually turning to rain, the winds veering
to fresh and squally westerlies, with rough
seas on the southern seaboard. Up till 9
a.m. the rain recorded was west of a line
Joining Carnarvon, Yalgoo, Southern Cross,
and Esperance, in West Australia, at one
or two coastal stations in South Australia,
scattered in western and central districts of
Victoria, and light in the west, parts of the
south, and scattered, elsewhere, in Tasmania
As shown above, the weather will rapidly
become unsettled as the storm centre approaches,
bringing rain and cold westerly
squalls, first affecting the western half of
this State. In the city the day was beautifully
fine, with a light northerly wind. The
minimum temperature was 140deg., the
highest since April 22, the preceding minimum
being 39deg. It was cloudy to over-
case in parts of the north and west of the
island in the morning, but line and clear, or
with little cloud elsewhere. By afternoon It
was cloudy to overcast generally, and light
rain had commenced to fall in the north-west,
with light to fresh N.W. to N.E. winds
