RECURRENCE OF TROUBLE IN
LONDON.
10,000 MEN IDLE.
LONDON, August 4
The strike of the London dockers and
the allied waterside workers is recur-
ring, and all the men at the Tilbury
Docks, with the exception of those employed
by the Port of London Authority,
are involved in the trouble'.
Ten thousand men have been thrown
idle. v
The Shaw, Savill, and Albion liner
Ionic, which arrived from New Zealand,
has been unable to unload her
cargo of meat and fruit. The clerical
staff went to work and enabled the
passengers to secure their luggage.
The Peninsular and Oriental, the
Blue Funnel, and the Shaw, Savill, and
Albion companies, are all affected.
The men assert that the masters recently
agreed to a uniform rate of 8d.
an hour for all classes of dock workers,
and that the masters now repudiate the
agreement.
A STRIKE SETTLED.
The strike among the dockers and
others employed in the shipping trade
at Newport, Monmouthshire, has been
settled, after a conference which lasted
for 22 hours. The terms of settlement
include the recognition of the unions.
LONDON, August 2.
The shipowners are ready to submit
the dockers' dispute to arbitration.
