IN THE CLOUDS.
AN AERIAL MYSTERY.
KOROIT, Friday. - There is considerable conjecture here as to the nature of an ap- pearance in the sky on Wednesday after- noon, which was witnessed, and is vouched for by two thoroughly reliable gentlemen.
Mr. W. H. Skilbeck and Mr. J. H. Ogle were standing on the railway platform at 5 o'clock in the afternoon, in bright daylight, with a clear sky, when they observed a comet-like shape appearing from the north- ward and apparently about half a mile above the earth. The object was dark, with the head apparently 1ft. in diameter, and the tail some 9ft. long. It was travelling rapidly towards a little west of south, and when directly overhead assumed a shape some- what resembling that of an airship. Then it became smaller, and once more spread out, finally disappearing behind some clouds which were rising to the southward. The object was not going with the little breeze to be felt, which was from the west, but had the breeze on what a sailor would call the starboard bow.
