FERN TREE GULLY FOOTBALL
CLUB.
Although at the last minute almost
the visiting team wired to say they
would be unable to get to the Gully,
the local team turned out in sufficient
numbers on Saturday to have a scratch
game and put in a bit of good exercise
work. There will be several new local
players in the team this year, and by
the way they shaped in a rough up on
Saturday they look like holding their
end up when the real fighting begins.
Amongst the new ones to show up were
Joe Allen, F. Alderson and B. Lording,
and as they have already started to
train they should render a good account
of themselves when the ball is bounced
for the first competition match. Some
of them are fleet of foot and will take
some wearing down. They hail from
where the air is fresh and keen. Dame
Rumor hath put it that the two blues
are not going to have much of a team,
but then Dame Rumor is sometimes
wrong. A number of last year's team
stripped on Saturday, and as they say
of the noble quadrulpels, they seem to
have wintered well and done well on
their oats. Billy Quinn, who was
among them, looks nearly fit already,
and "Con" was as tough as green hide.
Next Saturday the Richmond Young
Men's Catholic club visit Fern Tree
Gully.
