TRAGEDY IN THE RUSSIAN

ROYAL FAMILY.

THE DISGRACE OF THE GRAND

DUKE MICHAEL.

SUICIDE OF HIS MOTHER

LONDON, APRIL 14.

A very sad event has occurred in the Russian Royal family, as a consequence of the secret marriage of the Grand Duke Michael, a cousin of the Czar's, to a daughtor of the Duke of Nassau.

The Czar was so indignant with his cousin, who was one of his aides-de-camp, and had several positions in   the army, that he deprived him of his   military rank.

Tho mother of tho young archduke, the Princess Cocilia of Badon, was so over- come by grief at the disgrace which had befallen her son that sho committed suicide by stabbing horself with a poniard.

[The Princess Cecilia, a daughter of Prince William, brother of the reigning Duke of Baden, was bom on September 20,1839, and was married to the Grand Duke Michael, uncle of the present Czar, on August 28, 1857. Their son. the Grand Duke Michael, was bom on October 16,1861. The Duke of Nassau has only one legitimate daughter, the Princess Hilda, who is married to Prince Frederick William of Baden, and the lady whom the Gnand Duke Michael has married must therefore be an illegitimate daughter. This accounts, no doubt, for the Czar's anger at the marriage.]
