OBITUARY. MRS P. NICHOLSON. Many friends in this district learned with regret on Saturday that the seri- ous illness under which Mrs Mary Ann Nicholson, relict of the late Patrick Nicholson, of Willaura, had been suf- fering for some time past, had been attended with fatal results, death tak- ing place on Friday night at the ad- vanced age of 72 years. The deceas- ed lady, who was a sister of Mr Ar- thur Murphy, of Ararat, was an old pioneer of the State and district. She, with her late husband, settled in the Warracknabeal district in the early days of agricultural development there, but came to Ararat some twenty years ago, when the first of the large estates in the Willaura district was subdivided, and has resided here since. She leaves a grown up family of fourteen. The remains of the deceased were interred in the Ara- rat Cemetery on Saturday afternoon, being followed to their last resting place by many sorrowing friends. The burial service of the Roman Catholic Church was conducted by the Rev. Father Conlon. Four sons of the de- ceased carried the coffin to the grave, the funeral arrangements being in the hands of Mr J. Dunn.
