AUSTRALIAN POUCHED TIGERS
Another collection of highly- interesting
fossil remains have been discovered in the
Abercrombie Caven, near Lithgow, and has
been identified by the Government Pal-
aeontologist as thylacalco carnifax and
thylacinus cynocepbulus. The remains of
thylacoleo are of particular interest, as
the form is absolutely extinct, and has no
living near relatives. The teeth are of
great dimensions, and in a splendid state ,
of preservation. The thylncinus has been a
species of pouched tiger, now extinct in
Australia. Specimins of these are to be
seen in the Mines Department collection
and also a collection which is on view at
the caves. Negotiations are in progress for
the establishment of a motor car service
to run from Bathurst to the caves, which
if successful, will enable the Bathurst folk
to comfortably reach the caves and inspect
their wonders.
