AGENTLEMAN of Literary habits, who
contemplates transmitting to Europe for publication, some Essays recently penned, on subjects in a Moral, Philosophical, and Religious
point of view, of the very highest import to Man- j kind-perhaps to his fellow-subjects more es pecially-would be happy to submit them to the opinions of such of his well-informed fellow-colo
nists as might favor him with their audience, at j euch time and place as might be determined on. i
No payment for admission is desired (unless ? the author might by such means have the gratifi cation to aid tiie funds of the admirable ** Bene volent Society" so much needed, and now in contemplation) ; but if his sentiments should be favorably received he would publish here, instead of sending the MS. to be printed in England, provided a sufficient number of copies should be subscribed for in the colony, to defray the addi
tional cost of printing in Adelaide instead Af j
London, which is considerable.
The Essays are dedicated to the heads of the Church and State-the Archbishop of Canter bury and the Lord Chancellor-and virtually through them to thé Sovereign and the People.
Should the gentlemen -of the learned pro- j
fessions who are most interested, and at least in directly appealed to, and other educated gentle
men of Adelaide, to any considerable number, i and ladies (fot intellectual entertainments, are those of which well-informed women are at once
the ornament and support,) obligingly signify their intention at either of the public libraries or newspaper offices, to attend the readings, arrange' mente will be made for the.purpose, on two (or more) consecutive evenings ; and as the Essays ans argumentative, logical discussion is earnestly invited, on the opinions contended for, in order to render the meeting more pleasing and interesting to all who may attend, by the eloquence which may be anticipated from Lawyers and Divines, and to confirm the sentiments expressed in the Essays if right, and correct them if in error, by fair, free, and full investigation, which no one can more sincerely desire than the anther.
