MARQUIS AND ANDERSON SEEK
CLEARANCES TO MELBOURNE

Melbourne Football Club's star Tasmanian recruits, Peter Marquis (Devonport),
and Dale Anderson (Cooee), are seeking clearances from their former clubs to enable
theni to be available to play against Richmond in the opening V.F.L. roster match oh
April 18. ,

senior training list, and
have bright prospects of
making thé senior side.
Marquis arrived in Tasmania
by plane on Saturday on holi
day, and will return to the

mainland to
morrow. He
brought with
him Anderson's
and his own
papers for a
clearance.

When told that Marquis
would be applying for a clear
ance, the acting secretary of
the Devonport Football Club
(Mr, R. Henry) said yesterday:
"We will clear him to Mel
bo\irne without question." ?
Mr. Henry added that the.
club committee would meet
next Tuesday ' evening, and if
Marquis' clearance was in by
then, it would be dealt with.
"I cannot see any
reason lor norning
up Anderson's clear
ance," the secretary
of tïie Cooee Foot
ball Club (Mr. J.
Bonney) said in Bur
nie. "If Anderson
has a chance of get
ting, a game with
Melbourne, his
clearance is almost
certain to - go
through.".

Marquis said in -Devon
port that Anderson was

get the spearhead post.
Present Melbourne propo
sals were to play Ander
son at full-forward and
switch another former Tas
manian player, Noel Clarke,
into the. centre.
Marquis, a former Devonport
and N.WiP.U. representative,
hopes to gain a place as a
defender and ruck-cum-rover
to Denis Cordner.
Marquis said he was pleased
with his form, and was mak
ing every effort to reduce
weight. At present he weigh
ed just, under 14 st., but felt
he could do much better with
about a stone less. He trained
with Devonport last night.
On Saturday, Marquis play
ed in a practice, in which An
derson, playing at full-forward,
ended the da*y with 4.5. An
derson has been given special
training in leading and mark
ing.
