Not to Attend
Royal Wedding
LONDON, Wednesday (A.A.P.) Reuter's court correspondent learns that Lieutenant Mountbatten's three sisters --- Princess Margarita of Hohen lohen Langenburg, Princess Theodora of Baden and Princess Sophia of Hesse --- will not attend thc Royal wedding on November 20.
The three sisters aro married to German princes, and are living in Germany. Margarita, aged 42, lives near Stuttgart, In thc United States zone, Theodora (41), in the French zone, Sophie (33), in the British
zone.
Thc sisters are first cousins to thc Duchess of Kent and great-great granddaughters of Queen Victoria. There is no question of a family es- trangement, because Lieut. Mount- batten communicates with them reg- ularly. Princess Margarita. when the Royal engagement was announc- ed, told the press at Stuttgart she was delighted.
Lieut. Mountbatten, in 1!)46, met Princess Sophie for thc first time since the war begon. She was then
married to the Prince of Hanover. Her first husband, Prince Christo- pher of Hesse, a nephew of the for- mer Kaiser, was killed in an air crash in Italy in 1943 when serving as a lieutenant in thc Luftwaffe.
Princess Sophie, at a United States court-martial in Frankfurt in 1946, when United States officers were convicted of stealing some of the Hesse crown Jewels, identified a swastiki-marked gem-studded Nazi order as having belonged to Prince Christopher.
