GOLD OF THE DAWN.

rj.OLD of thc dawn, breaking silently, ^ easterly,

Up from tho lino of tho sea in a portent

of promise.

Up in tho lowering sky in lines palo

and gold.

Out in tho garden dark shadows under

tho trees

Thinning to dusky. Groy Httlo whis-

pers of shadows

Stealing away from tho bushes, Stouling away from tho lilies.

Over all now ÍB tho white of the dawn That brightons to yellow and quickens

to gold.

The last faintest shadow has gone And light strikes everywhere now

Through sea and garden and sky.

-MAUD SLYE,

in "Songs and

Solaces."
