HELPING MINDA.
CONCERTS AT TJSE TIVOLI.
With the object of assisting the move- ment to raise a large sum of money in aid of the Minda Home a first-class concert, arranged bv Mr. L.-W. Yemm, was given in the Tivoli Theatre (lent rent free for the occasion) on Tuesday afternoon. Un-; fortunately owine to the hurried arrange- ments, and the fact that there was a heavy downpour of rain siiortly hefore the performance there was only a moderate attendance. Songs were contributed by the Misses Ada Short and Daisy Vardon, the Hon. E. Lucas, M.L.C., and Messrs. F. J. Hourigan and Von der Borch. and violin
solos bv Miss Irene Adams.
.Later in the afternoon a second concert, given by the Stock Exchange brokers, was held. At this there was a much larger attendance. Mr. W- B. Carr (chairman of the Stock Excbañzc) presided, and the folloyving programme was well received: Overture. Mr. F. C. Sach: sones. '""King's Own," Mr. A. Nicholls; umbrella, dance. Miss Vera Roach : song. "The Yiflace black-
smith." Mr. W. j¡. Back; recitation,
"Lasca," Mr- A. J. Roberts; sone. "The Old Brieade." Mr. M. A. Fotherinaham: humorou-* lecture on "doss." Mr. J. Roach : song. "The Frenchman." Mr. F. W. Gur- ney; song. "The muleteer." Mr. W. J. Back; comic sketch, in costume, "Josiar,'' Mr. J. Roach: sone. ""A'choo," Mr. C. C. Titeker. Business at the Stock Exchanae. and also in brokers' offices, was suspended for the hour and a half over yvhich the programme exteuded. Each . performer was encored, and much merriment yyas caused when cabbazes. sausaees, and bunches of turnips and carrots were handed to the performers by their íeüow members of the Exchange instead of bouquets. Mr. F. Bruce conducted an auction sale of four pipes, presented bv Mr. E. L. Benda, and each realised about £1 10/. No admission «vas charged, and a collection, with an amount subscribed by the brokers in the niorninc. totalled £70. Durinc the interval bet-ween the concerts Mr. T. Buildec EOM a number of articles by auction, the principal being a hat (presented bv Tarn, Ltd.), yvhich realised £1.
The secretary of Minda informs us that the weight of -the fat ¡bullock, which Mr. Sidney Kidman presented to Minda for the guessing competition, was 706 lb., and the weight of the cow 767 Ib., making a total of 1,473 lb. The prize-winners are: First prize. Mr. H. Curtis, Balaklava, 1,473.J lb.: second. Mr. Thomas Bell, Clar- ence" Park. 1.4721; third, divided equally between Mr. J. Roach (1,-474 lb.), Mr. J.
Roach (L4?2 lb.), and Mr. J. F. Button. I Magill (1.472).
