Flew "Tasmania II."
Spitfire
Letters received recently by Colonel
It. J. Dumaresq from his son, Pilot
Sergeant Lewis Dumaresq, Royal Air
Force, England, mentioned that for
many months past he had been flying
"Tasmania II.," one of the Spittfire
planes given by Tasmania to England.
He said that Tasmania II. was very
nice to fly, and he was sorry to say
good-bye to her when moving on
to a night fighter squadron. In
earlier letters he mentioned that his
squadron in one month had shot down
nine enemy planes, but he did not
say whether he was flying Tasmania II
at that time.
Pilot=Sergeant Dumaresq has been
flying with the R.A.F. in different
parts of England, both with bomber
and fighter planes, since October, 1939.
On hearing of the Spitfires given by
Tasmania he put in a request to be
allotted to fly in one of them.
[The Tasmanian Spitfire Fund was
launched by "The Examiner." For the
purchase of fighters for the R.A.F. the
people of Tasmania contributed more
than £18,000.]
