At a large and influential public meeting, held last night, iu refcreneo to the railway question, tho following resolutions were passed hy acclamation :-"That this meeting would urge upon thc Minister for Works that tenders bo called for a section of our railway, accord- ing to promise made by him to Mr. W. Scott, M.L.A., aud thc deputation, in August last,
which was to the effect that such would bc
called in four months from that dato. Seeing
that sufficient labour is now in tbe district, aud .liable to leave if operations arc not com- menced forthwith." Tho chairman was re- quested tosend the resolutions to the Minister fur Works. Perfect unanimity prevailed throughout tho proceedings, and aa earnest wish for thc immediate construction of the railway waa manifested.
ABAMAC, November 3.
Tho weather is hot and dry. The ther- mometer to-day was 105° in thc shade. Feed aud water plentiful. Thunderstorms are threatening.

Caldwell's G50 hoad of mixed cattle, from Castlereagh, passed to-day ; also Bloodsworth's 700 and BUckett's 1000, travelling for Brass, nuil Harding's 1900 sheep fur the Dalby market. Sawyer's 9000 mixed, and Beau- mont's 9001) wethers, have also passed, travelling for grass.

Messrs. 15. Murphy anil Co. report that ! they have auld Whycnmlie station, on account ! of Mr. Johu Becket, to Messrs. Flctchor and Lorimer, together with 730 head ot cattle, for
£4500.
TOOWOOMUA, November 9.
A girl seven years of age, named Catherine Bell, was killed hy thc full of a tree. A fire broke out nt midnight in tho stables of the European Hotel. Thc Hames spread rapidly, ami extended to tim kitchen, which, with tho stables, Wa6 totally destroyed. The main building was saved through the cxei-tionB of tho Fire Brigade. Thc kitchen was insured for £100. Two hnrsos were burnt to death, so rapidly were thc stables enveloped in Hames. Thc night was still, or thc losses would have hoon heavy.
DALBY, November 9.
Tho weather during the last teri days has been fearfully hot, thc thermometer having ranged over 100" in tho shade There bas also been a hot wind nearly every day, and thc country is looking bad. Unless rain fall soon, heavy losses in stock must reBult throughout Northern Downs.
SYDNEY, November 7.
Mr. Fletcher, superintendent of Terrible Vale station, New Knglaud district, BUeil Mr. Marsh, a neighbouring squatter, fur maliciously prosecuting him on thc charge of stealing four bales of wool. That case broke dowu, hence thc present action, aud a verdict has becu returned in favour of the plaintiff for £250 damages.
A company nilli a capital of £50,000 has boen floated by 14S shareholders to purchase the Annandale estate, in thc suburbs, com- prising 300 acres, suitable for building pur-
poses.
Thc Premier contradicts tho Btatcinont respecting his acceptance of a seat iu the Upper House or permanently filliug tho office of Minister for Lauds. Ho will probably sit for tho Bogati, if elected for that constituency next Monday, and for which Sir Henry Parkes
is also nominated.

Tlie Customs receipts during thc past ten mouths amount to £744,402, showing an in- crease of £54,430 on tho corresponding period of tho preceding year.
Thc liabilities of Messrs. Barnard and Hinton amount to £12,184, of which £10,154 aro owed in Sydney, and the balance in Mel- bourne aud London. Thc assets Btand at £15,000.
Messrs. Mort and Co, report that there was much spirited bidding at the wool sales to- day, and parcels of greasy realised up to 12SJ. per lb.
MELHOBHSE, November 7.
In tho Legislative Assembly thia evoning, the Premier said that Victoria was, and always bad boen, willing to renew former ! agreement regarding the collection of Border
duties, but th.c demands of New South Wales were so uureawmable nothing could be done. Mr. Berry alBO stated that tcudors had been called for a ponnnuent exhibition building, costing £60,000, and that if necessary the Government would not hesitate to spend £100,000. ..
