Smith may bid for Vic. Shield side
STATE opening bowler Cyril Smith may play cricket in Victoria next season.
Smith will fly to Mel-] bourne to-morrow for a National Code try-out with Pootscray club. If negotiations are suc cessful, Smith will live in Melbourne and try to clinch a position in the Shield XI there. 'If Foolscray can pro vide me with a good job I will certainly settle in Melbourne,' he said last night. 'However, I have made up my mind not to sign any thing until I return to Bris bane the following week end,' he added. Smith will not be available to play with Yeronga in Brisbane's opening club round on April 19. Playing grounds for the first round will not be re 1 eased until next Wednesday night. The first round draw Is: Ycronga -Mnyne: Kedron— Western Districts; Windsor— Snndgate: Wlls ton-Orange — Coorparoo.
