?ATHERTON, Tuesday.— lour towns in North Queensland — Townsville, Allicrloii, Herberton, and Millaa Millnn — Mere blacked
out on Monday night as a result of a mystery phone call to the police inspector nl Cuirng. Police to-day investigated the call, which advised that a number of unidentified planes had been seen over the Atherton Tableland, apparently heading for Townsville. The message caused the first alert on the Atherton Tableland. Inquiries in all parts of the dis trict revealed that no strange air craft had been seen. Servicemen and wardens searched for exposed lights, tin hatted police were on duty, and fire spotters were at their posts for an hour and a half. People rushed for shelters in Atherton and Herberton, where the black-out lasted approximately an hour. Anti-aircraft personnel in Townsville were recalled from the city to their posts. Army tracks in the streets were dispersed. All cars and trucks travelled without lights. ' ? . , .
