Chairman Of Air Body Disappointed Disappointment that a mem ber of the Empire Indian Ocean Air Route Committee had not been invited to fly to South Af rica on the first service leaving Perth on September 2 was ex pressed by the chairman of the committee (Mr. S. W. Perry) yesterday. The committee was a local body which had pressed for the development of Indian Ocean air routes since long before the war and Mr. Perry felt it was only right that one of its mem bers-preferably Mr. C. L. K. Foot-should have been invit ed to go on the inaugural flight. Although the service to Jo hahnesburg by way of Cocos Island and Mauritius was of great importance to Western Australia and offered an alter nate route to England, the committee felt that it was by no means the most suitable al ternate. The establishment of bases at Diego Garcia and the Seychel les would enable the service to fly by way of Cocos Island and those points to Mombasa. Even if the present route were continued, bases at Diego Garcia and the Seychelles would offer alternative landing fields on the 2,677-mile Cocos Island-Mauritius leg of the flight, Mr. Perry said.
