Zabara's Victory In Classic LONDON, Fri.-The One Thousand Guineas run over one mile at Newmarket today was won by Zabara, ridden by K. Gethin, at 7 to 2. La Mir ambule (A. Poincelet), the 2 to 1 favourite, was second and Re freshed (G. Richards) at 100 to 8 was third. Zabara scored by half a length, with five lengths be tween second and third. There were 20 runners. The race was restricted to three-year-old fillies, who each carried 9.0. Zabara and La Mirambule drew clear of the field a quar ter of a mile from home. Poincelet rode the favourite, La Mirambule, hard, but Zabara ran on gallantly and held the challenger off by half a length. Freize, the early leader, who was ridden by the Australian, E. Britt, was fourth. The winner received £A16, 835/12/6 of a record stake of £A19,771/17/6 for the race. Zabara is owned by Sir Mal colm McAlpine and trained by Victor Smyth. La Mirambule is owned by Mr. M. Hennessy and trained in France. Refreshed is owned by Mr. J. A. Dewar.
