Leaving On

Snake Hunt

Sydney-Three young: men will leave Sydney next month for Cape York to hunt the world's second largest venemous snake -the Taipan.

They are Roy McKay C21), cadet preparator at the Australian Mu- seum; Kevin Budden (19), a stew- ard; and Neville Goddard (20), a carpenter.

The trip will last about six weeks and they expect their expenses to be £35 a head.

From Sydney they will go by train to Cairns and then fly to Coen, 250 miles to the north-west, which will be their headquarters.

"We often make excursions around Sydney hunting snakes,'* Roy McKay said. "Usually we catch them by picking them up by

the tail.

"With the Taipans we probably   will use a forked, stick to hold them down by the head. One       about 4ft long will do me."
