Charming little jumper
for girls 7 to 10 years
Ribbed for strength and warmth with
its lace panel and long sleeves, this is
a winner for daughter's winter wardrobe.
THE original garment was
knitted in a bright red,
but choose your own color.
Here are the directions:
Materials: 6oz. Patons "Azalea"
crochet and knitting wool; 1 pair
each Nos. 9 and 12 knitting needles;
a medium-sized crochet hook; 6 small
buttons.
Measurements: Length from top
of shoulder, 17in.; width all round
at underarm, 30in.; length of sleeve
from underarm, 17in.
Tension: To obtain these measure-
ments it is absolutely necessary to
work at a tension to produce 7 sts.
to the inch in width.
FRONT
Using the No. 12 needles, cast on
96 sts.
1st Row: K
1. * k 2, p 2,
rep from * to
last 3 sts., k 3.
2nd Row: K1, * p 2, k2, rep from
*to last 3 sts., p 2, k 1.
Rep. 1st and 2nd rows sixteen
times and 1st row once.
Using No. 9 needles proceed as
follows:
1st Row: K 1, (p 2, k 2) eight
times, p 29, inc. once in the next
st. (k 2, p 2) eight times, k 1.
2nd Row: K1, (k 2, p 2) eight
times (k 2 tog., t.b.1, w.fwd) fifteen
times, k 1 (p 2, k 2) eight times, k 1.
3rd Row and Alt. Rows: K 1 (p 2,

once at each end of the needle

Work 7 rows without shaping.
Cast off 9 sts. at the beg. of the
next 2 rows, then dec. once at each
end of the needle in next and every
alt. row until 81 sts. remain.
Work 38 rows without shaping.
39th Row: K 1. (p 2 k 2) six
times, p 9, cast off 13, p 9. (k2,p2)
six times, k 1.
40th Row: K 1, (k 2, p 2) six
times, (k 2 tog., t.b.l., w.fwd.) four
times, k 1. Place rem. sts. on a spare
needle.
41st Row: Cast off 2, p 7, rib 25
42nd Row: Rib 25, k 4, k 2 tog
w.fwd., k 1.
43rd Row: Cast off 2. p 5, rib 25.
44th Row: Rib 25. k 3, k 2 tog
Cont, in patt., dec. once at neck edge
in every row until 26 sts. rem.
Work 3 rows without shaping.
Shape for shoulder as follows:-]
1st Row: Work in patt, to the last
7 sts., turn.
2nd and Alt. Rows: Work to end
of row.
3rd Row: Work to last 14 sts-, turn
5th Row: Work to last 21 sts, turn
6th Row: Like the 2nd row. Cast
off.
BACK
Work exactly as given for front
until armhole shapings have been
completed.
Proceed as follows:
Work 22 rows without shaping.
In the next row work 40 sts. in
patt., cast on 3 sts., turn. Place
rem. sts. on spare needle.

(these 43 sts., keeping the 3 cast-on
Sts. in plain, smooth fabric.

Shape for shoulder as follows:

1st Row: Work in patt, to the last
7 sts-, tum.

2nd and Alt. Rows: Work to end
of the row.

3rd Row: Cast off ll sts., work to
last 14 sts., turn.

5th Row: Cast off 6 sts., work to
last 21 sts., turn.

6th Row: Like the 2nd row. Cast

off

Join on wool at back opening and
work sts. on spare needle to corres-
pond, omitting the 3 cast-on sts.

SLEEVE

Using No. 12 needles, cast on 52
sts. Work in rib as given for the
front for 3 in Change to No. 9 needles
and cont, in rib. inc once at each end
of every 8th row until 68 sts. rem.,
then inc. each end of every 6th row
until there are 86 sts. on needle.

Cont, without shaping until work

measures 17 in. from commencement.
Dec. once each end of needle in

next and every alt. row until 44 sts.
rem., then cast off 3 at beg. of every

row until 26 sts. rem.
Cast off.

Work another sleeve in the same

manner.

NECK RIBBING

Using No 12 needles and com
nencing at left side of neck open
ing, pick up and knit 96 sts- evenly
round neck. Work in rib as given for
the front for 1 in. Cast off loosely in

rib.

TO MAKE UP

With a damp cloth and warm iron
press lightly. Join up shoulder, side,
and sleeve seams. Sew up sleeves,
placing seam to seam. Work 6
crochet loops down right side of neck
opening, Sew on buttons to corres-

pond with loops. Sew underlap in

position.
