PROFESSIONAL
SEWING
HINTS
Hazel Gowland,
well-known sewing
lecturer, tells
you how the professionals sew.
MAKE THIS IN
2 HOURS!
"I've been talking to leading dress designers" says
Hazel. "They all say the first rule is to choose the
correct thread for the fabric you're using. Synthetic
fabrics need a good, strong synthetic thread ... or
you'll have puckered seams after the first wash! New
Trylko on the blue reel is best.
Wool, cotton and other natural fabrics should be
sewn with a natural thread, like Sylko.
You see, natural fabrics need a hotter iron . . . This
could damage a synthetic thread and perhaps
weaken seams. All your clever sewing is wasted if you
don't use Sylko."
HOW TO STOP THREAD SNARL
WHEN SEWING SYNTHETICS:
Make sure you buy "New Trylko" on the BLUE reel.
It's the synthetic thread that cuts down tangles and
snarls during sewing.
HOW TO GET THE BEST COLOUR MATCH:
Pick a thread just one shade darker than the fabric
you're sewing. For prints, pick the predominant
colour then choose one shade darker. Remember,
Sylko and Trylko come in literally hundreds of fashion
colours. You can match anything perfectly!
HOW TO STOP TANGLES WHEN HEMMING:
Cut your thread in short 16" lengths.
HOW TO STOP
SEAM—BURST IN STRETCH FABRICS:
Always sew stretch fabrics or jersey with new Trylko
on the blue reel. Trylko has a much greater stretch
capacity than normal cotton thread. So it doesn't
snap when the garment is worn and stretch-pressure
is put on the seams. If possible, use a fine zig-zag
stitch.
REMEMBER,2 THREADS
ARE STILL BETTER THAN ONE!
