Mr. Edward James Hogon, who died at
his residence, Hen??y Beach, on May 2,
was a well-known city business man. No
one was better known in connection with
the jewellery trade. He had been associated
with the well-known firm of Stevenson
Brothers for 46 years. Mr. W .
H. Stevenson, the head of the firm, said
they regretted his death more than he
could express, as there was no more
faithful and honorable member of the
staff. Mr. Hogon's father was one of
the earliest settlers in the district of
Macc?es?ield, where he took up land in
the fifties. There Mr. E. J. Hogon was
born in September , 1863. He assisted his
father in his early boyhood, and in 1881,
when 17 years old, he entered the employment
of Messrs. Stevenson Brothers,
and quickly rose, until he became manager .
When the firm was turned into a
limited company some years ago he was
appointed secretary , a position he held till
his death . He married Miss Margaret
Ellen Jones, a daughter of Mr. Richard
Jones, of Port MacDonnell. She survives
him , and there are three children,
Messrs. Reginald B. Hogon and Roger K.
Hogon, of Henley , and Mrs. Harry Lawrence ,
of Gilberton. Twenty-two years
ago Mr . Hogon and his family removed to
Henley Beach, where he always took an
active interest in manly sports. He was
a member of the Henley Tennis Club for
years. Gardening and carpentering occupied
much of his leisure, and he was a
good horseman. For years he rode to
and from the city each day . He was also
well known as a tenor singer , and was for
a number of years a member of the Adelaide
Orpheus Society . He was a member
of the Roman Catholic Church, and
while living in the city was a regular attendant
at St. Francis Xavier's Cathedral,
where he was a leading member of
the choir. His services as a singer were
always readily given for charity and
church work. On removing to Henley
Bea<-h he .vas largely ins-trumental in

Mr. George Bosier, who died on Friaav
last, was a pioueer ?: rhe Sratc Borii
at Kvereden, Cambridgeshire, in Septem
ber, 1851, be came to Australia ana started
work at Mount Templeton. . From there
!]-? went to Barunga. finally taking up hud
at Whitwarra. He lai-med ai Whitwartx,
in the Balakiava district, for over forty

friends, and was resi>ected and loi-ed f?i
his genial disposit:ou. He married Miss
Ann Ivramer. of Redbanks. There were
five daughters and iwo sons of the mar
riage, and, wiih the exception of one snn.

Mr. Johann Wilhelm Thiele died
at his home near Loxton on
Monday. He was 86 years of age,
and was born at Hahndorf. His
father. Mr. J. C. Thiele, arrived in South
Australia on December 15, 1838, having
been born in Germany on April 20. 1809.
He died in October. 1881. In a recent
interview Mr. J. W. Thiele. who was
one of the pioneer settlers of Loxton, said
he remembered when only a boy coming
to Adelaide, which was then only a vill-
lage with a few pug houses. His parents
settled at Loxton. and started a garden.
His work was to deliver vegetables from
the garden. Mr. Thiele's mother died at
the age 82.
