ALTITUDE FLIGHTS. Request for Information. A request was made yesterday by Mr. C. L. K. Foot, who, with Mr. Norbert Keenan, M.L.A., and others chartered a Fox Moth plane, piloted by Mr. V. James, to fly over Perth on Tuesday for the purpose of arousing interest in air de fence, for observation reports from per sons who saw the plane. The plane made flights at varying heights, the idea be ing that, in the event of an air raid, a knowledge of the height at which a plane was flying would enable people to judge whether it was within effective machine-gun range, or whether the dan ger was from bombs alone. Mr. Foot said yesterday that, so far as could be ascertained, nobody saw the plane, which had a wing span of 35ft., when it was flying at an altitude of about 7,500ft. not very much after 1 o'clock. It was impossible to conclude that it was not seen at that height. At 1.30 p.m. the plane was flying over Cottesloe, Pep permint Grove and South Perth and from the Causeway to Parliament House at a height of 10,000ft. This was the most interestingi height at which the plane was flown and he would be grateful if any person who observed the plane at about that time would communicate with him at 5 Hardy-street, South Perth. The plane was the only one in the air at that time. It might be possible, he added, to ar range for a flight by a larger plane over the city at an altitude of 12,500ft. for 15 minutes to test whether it would be visible to the average person.
