PHENOMENAL HEAT.
ELEVEN MORE DEATHS.
BOURKE HOSPITAL CROWDED.
BRISBANE, WEDNESDAY.
The weather was exceedingly oppressive
to-day, the register being the highest on
record for the summer. High temperatures
prevailed through the colony, the principal
being — Thargomindah and Cunnamulla
113, Bolton 112, and Issoford 110. Roma
reports that all the crops are withering,
while a Thargomindah telegram states that
five more sudden deaths have occurred in
the district, and are attributed to the
heat.
SYDNEY, WEDNESDAY.
At Bourke the thermometer to-day
registered 120 in the shade. Almost all
business except in the hotels has been sus-
pended, but heavy clouds are now hanging
about, and hopes of rain are entertained.
Two more deaths are reported, and four
during last week at Gandooka. Many
persons left Bourke by special excursion
trains this morning. The hospital is
crowded.
