FASHIONABLE WEDDING
An interesting wedding was celebrated
at Holy Trinity Church yesterday after-
noon, at three o'clock, when Mr Septimus
Nichols, son of the late Mr Charles
Nichols, of Dunedin, N.Z., and who was
formerly resident here, was married to Miss
Elvira Mary Smith, second daughter of
Mr Chas. H. Smith, of "Beulah," High-
street, Launceston. The ceremony was
performed by the Ven. Archdeacon Hales,
incumbent of Holy Trinity, and there was
a large number present in the church to
witness the event. The bride's dress was
of cream brocade satin, draped with lace,
and relieved with bunches of orange
blossom. She wore a brooch and bracelet
of diamonds and sapphires, the gift of the
bridegroom, and her sweet face looked
charming under the tulle veil and orange
blossoms. The bride carried a magnificent
bouquet of waterlilies and other white
flowers.
Miss Mary Smith, sister of the bride,
was chief bridesmaid, the others being
Misses Edie Barnes, May Salier, and Milly
Hobkirk. They wore white muslin, slashed
with eau-de-nil silk, veils, and pearl orna-
ments, and carried clematis bouquets in
the hair.
Two little girls, Miss Doris Parker and
Miss Philis Martin— who were also brides-
maids—carried the bride's train. Mr
Harry Nichols, brother of the bridegroom,
was best man, the other groomsmen being
Messrs Percy Smith, Arthur Miller, and
W. S. Johnstone.
The church was tastefully decorated by
the young friends of the bride, the wedding
bell at the entrance of the chancel being
specially admired. Mr Fred. Ferguson
presided at the organ, and played the
"Wedding March" as the bridal party
left the church.
After the ceremony the wedding party
assembled at "Beulah," where refresh-
ments were served.
The Archdeacon proposed in a few well
chosen words the health of the young
couple, which was cordially honoured, and
the bridegroom suitably responded.
Amongst the guests were Mrs and Miss
Nichols, and Messrs Harry and Cyril
Nichols, Mr and Mrs T. Baker, Mr and
Mrs and Miss Grueber, Mr and Mrs R. L.
Parker, the Misses Collins and Mr R. M.
Collins, Miss Annie Gibson, Miss Amy
Miller, and others.
