above, you will obtain a garment
corresponding to the measurements
given on our plan.
Tension: 4 inches equai 40 stitches
and 58 rows.
FRONT
Start at the bottom by casting on
90 stitches and work in basket-stitch,
increasing at the left side 10 times
by one stitch every 0.75 inches. When
the work measures 8.5 inches, form
none Help
the armhole at the left side by cast-
ing off every other row, once by 4
stitches, once by 3 stitches, once by
2 stitches, and twice by 1 stitch. When
the work measures 15 inches, cast
off every other row at the right side
for the nécklinë, four times by 6
stitches, once by 4 stitches, and three
times by 2 stitches. When the work
measures 16 inches, form the shoul-
der by casting off the remaining
stitches at the beginning of the next
four rows, starting at the armhole
side of the work.
Knit the other side in the same
manner, completely reversing the
work.
BACK
Begin at the bottom (which ls
made in one piece with the belt,
which is knotted in front). Cast on
280 stitches and work in plain stitch,
increasing both sides five times by
1 stitch every other row. Cast off
80 stitches both sides, then knit 25
stitches, increase 24 times through-
out the following 70 stitches (ie, *
knit 2 plain into the following stitch.
2 plain *, repeat 24 times).
Knit the remaining 25 stitches. There
are now 144 stitches on the needle.
Continue on these in reversed stock-
ing-stitch (ie, the front of the stitch
is the wrong side of the work).
When the work measures 8.25 inches
form the armhole by casting off
both sides every other row, once by
4 stitches, once by 3 stitches, twice
by 2 stitches, and twice by 1 stitch.
When the work measures 16 inches,
form the shoulders by casting off
10 stitches at the beginning of the
next eight rows. Cast off the re-
maining stitches for the back of the
neck.
SLEEVES
Begin at the bottom by casting on
70 stitches. Knit 16 rows in plain
stitch. Continue in reversed stocking
stitch, increasing 18 times through-
out the first row. There are now
18 stitches on the needle. Continue
increasing 18 both sides every 0.25
inch. When the work measures 5.25
inches, decrease both sides every
other row 12 times by 1 stitch and
21 times by 2 stitches. Cast off
the remaining 16 stitches.
BUTTON BANDS
Pick up 126 stitches along the
front (lengthways) of both sides.
Knit 18 rows in plain stitch on these
stitches, making 5 buttonholes on
the right side. These should be 6
stitches wide and 18 stitches apart,
the first and fifth being 12 stitches
from the ends.
COLLAR
Pick up 90 stitches round the
neckline (between the two button
bands) and knit 16 rows in plain
stitch. For the bow, knit two pieces
by casting on 30 stitches and knit-
ting as follows: Knit 24, turn, come
back on these 24 stitches. Knit two
rows on all the stitches then two
rows, stopping at 6 stitches from the
ends; 2 rows on all stitches, etc. At
the same time increase 6 times every
other row and decrease 6 times every
other row at the higher side to form
the point.
After pressing and trying on, sew
the various pieces together. Sew the
belt in position, pulling it slightly
as you work. Sew bow to both ends
of the collar and to the belt and
knot in front. Fix ends with press
fasteners and sew buttons down the
front.
