TBE W.Á. ATHLETIC CLUB AND THE
FÓUÑDÁTION DAY SPORTS.
J - TO THE EDITOB. . . J
SIB,-From a letter published ia your issue of yesterday, (Tuesday) over signature of " W. A. i Gale," and another in your even- ting contemporary of same date, over signa-
ture "P. L. Hussey," beth bearing on above.,
subject, I learn, for, the first time, that' through tho medium " of the latter named gentleman, the West A^tralian'Cribketing Association has received tho consent of the ' City, Council to hold .sports on thÀ. Nc* ' Recreation Ground , on lat Juno ' next, with right of charging for admission. The Asso-
ciation IP, sincerely grateful to Mr. P. L.. Hussey, for procuring them this boon, and fully appreciate hU energy, and it must bo disappointing to him to know that his ex- cessive eea). ia wasted, inasmuoh as the Asso- ciation does not intend to avail itself of the
I opportunity giren. The Association bas never
for a moment entertained the idea of holding sports on 1st of Jane, or any other day, and Mr. P. L Hussey has no authority whatever to nee its name. His intention is, possibly, a laudable one, but in future, if he is desirous of assisting any pnblio body by means of representing himself as seoretary of a com- mittee of that body, I think it is somewhat advisable to consult, and obtain the consent of, such body first.
In replying to Mr. Gale, Mr. Hussey says " What has the general committee to do with " the sports committee P Nothing-and if " they had, allow me to inform Mr. Gale " that at the present they do not exist." He is certainly right. Thc general committee has nothing to do with thc sports committee, for the simple reason that á sports committee in connection with the Assooiation does not). and, -1 believe, never did, exist. As to the existence of, a general com- mittee, probably the mention of Eule 49 of the new. rules may. alter bis erroneous idea that, because uo alteration
was mada in the- managing or general oom» mittee, when the new roles carno into force, auoh committee ceased to exist. Bule 49 reads 'VTheBS rules shall come into force and
".have effect from the 1st (.day of Maroh/' " 1S9Ö, but shall in n$ jcase "affect, existing " arrangementsfor thVíóúrrénl Beasön;"'
