INTERNATIONAL FOOTBALL. The English footballers played a match against Australia at Brisbane on Sa'urday, and defeated them by 11 points to 0. There was a very large attendance. The match was a fine exposition of Rugby Magnificent play was shown at times, the Englishmen clearly showing themselves to be the better team. Their form was in marked contrast to what they showed against Queensland. The forwards seem to have considerably improved in pace, while their scrum work was really excellent. The backs also played a grand game. The first half was entirely in the Englishmen's favour, they keeping the colonials almost the whole time on the defensive. Towards the close of the game the Australians rallied splendidly and made a determined attack which lasted fully a quarter of a hour on the visitors' goal. The different Australian players made a splendid rush for goal, but the Englishmen's defence was very stubborn and repelled every effort of the colonials to scare. Thompson, Nicholls Adamson, Cookson, Jarman, Stout, and Gibson were all prominent during the match. For Australia, M'Gowan, Evans, Ward, Currie, Csrew, Ellis, Challinor, and Marks did excellent work. The Englishmen were loudly cheered for their victory by the onlookers, whose numbers increased to fully 15,000.
