Phar Lap, the champion three-year-old of Australia and the best galloper ever seen at Morphettville, won the King's Cop on Saturday, defeating the placegetters in the Adelaide Cop with such case that it is clear that the £2400 race last week could have been captured by

Mm bad he not been scratched at the eleventh hour. Only one other favorite won on Saturday.

As It was generally known that the' special mission to Adelaide of Pliar Lap ■was the King's Cup. many people were attracted to Morphettville on the final day of the SJLJ.C autumn meeting and they saw what 99 per cant, of racs j?oers expected—a decisive victory by Fhar Lap, with the opaosltion, which included the three placed horses in the Adelaide Cop, completely outclassed when It came to a finigtiiwfr run down the straight The attendance was highly satisfactory, and although the presence of Phar tap in the King's Cop spout the event from a wagerlnp point of view, the totalisator invest ments for the day were more than £2.000 better than on the corresponding day last year. The racins was much enjoyed in the delightful weather and in pleasant surroundings, and all ar rangements worked with dock-like pre cision.

Tfae vice-regal party arrived prior to the first race, and was received by members of the committee of the club. The Governor-General (Lord Stone haven), the Governor of Victoria (Lord Somers). the Governor of Western Aus tralia (Sir William Campion), and the Governor of South Australia (Sir Alexander HOre-Buthven) were the^ guests of the club at the official lun cheon, which was presided over by Mr. S. J. Jacobs in the absence of Mr. W. B. Carr. who had contracted a severe cold. Among the others present were the Chief Justice (Sir George Murray) the Premier (Hon. L. L. Hill), the Chief Secretary (Hon. J. Jelley), the Attor ney-General (Hon. W. J. Denny), the Minister of Agriculture (Hon. S. U. Whitford). the leader of the Opposi tion (Hon. B. L. Butler), the Lord Mayor of Adelaide (Mr. Lavingtcn Bdnython). Senator J. J. Daly (Vice president of the Federal Executive Council). Sir Lancelot Stirling, the Hon. H. Alan Currie (vice-chairman of the V.8.C.). Mr. J. A. MacLeod (mem ber of the V-R.C. committee), and the chairmen of metropolitan *rlni>s.
