RUGBY UNION
TEAMS FOR FIJI
AND CEYLON
SYDNEY, Wednesday
All New South Wales repre-
sentatives in 'an Australian
Rugby Union team to tour Cey-
lon, which was announced to-
night, are country players.
Australian Rugby Union sel-
ectors included eight country
players in another Australian
team which will tour Fiji.
Both tours begin next month.
The teams will not have rep-
resentative honours because they
are only on a "goodwill .tour."
The five country members of
the team to tour Ceylon are
Maurice Graham (Wagga), John
Stanbrook (Yeoval), Rex Hale
(Goulburn) and Newcastle for-
wards, Neil Adams, who is vice
captain, and Phil Alston.
The Ceylon team will leave
Sydney in the liner Strathnaver
on August 14, and will return in
the Stratheden on October 1.
The Fiji touring team will
leave by flying boat on August
13, and return on August 31.
Captain of the team for Fiji,
Keith Kennington, of Victoria,
is captain of the Australian
United Services team which will
tour New Zealand this month.
Kennington is a Flight Lieuten-
ant in the R.A.A.F.
Members of both touring teams
will pay their own expenses.
This meant that only players
who could do this were consid-
ered for selection.
Keith Hawke, of Ainslie, has
been selected for the Fiji tour.
Keith is the second Hawke to
become a Rugby Internationalist,
his cousin John having represent-
ed Australia with the 1948 Rugby
League team in England.
Keith is a member of Royals
club and received most ot his
early football training at Can-
berra High School, when he
played in the First XV for some
years.
He represented Country in the
trials for the Wallaby tour of
South Africa.
