THE PROPOSED BARRACK STREET BRIDGE. -4---~ To the Editor. Sir,-After the years of stagnation that have afflicted South Perth, it is a relief to notice that at last a keen and intelligent int6rest is being taken in its welfare. I observed by a report in one of the pa pers recently, that the City.Engineer, in reply to an enquiry made by Mlr. J. Charles, had stated that a bridge or causeway could be constructed from the end of Barrack-street to South Perth,'fdr a sum which could .not be described as excessive, considering the advantages that such a work would confer, not only on the'newly-formed mnimicipality, but also on the city itself. I think the scheme is worthy of the serious consider ation of Parliament, and is also one which should command the support of every member. of the House who wishes to see the public funds expended on works which will.prove of.lasting benefit to the whole community. itir. Ghd don, I consider, deserves to be compli mented on the manner in which he has dealt with the question asked hint, for he has shown that such a work is most advisable, and also that the Government should not be deterred from undertaking the work on account of the expense, as all things.being taken into consideration the cost would not be excessive. Yours, etc., OLD RESIDENT.' South Perth, April 29.
