On her maiden voyage from Yoko- hama to Sydney, the Japanese freighter, China Maru; 5,870 tons, went ashore on Seni Island, about 130 miles from Rabaul. The freighter according to a message, was leaking, but her engines were intact.
The Sydney agenls have been in- formed that No. 1 fore peak tank is in'danger of taking in water. Efforts
to refloat the vessel have so far failed.
As there is no list, the'captain be- lieves that the vessel may be re- floated. There are no ships in the area but the agents are considering sending a ship from Rabaul to-mor- row to act as a tug.
