CRICKET.
WESTERN AUSTRALIA V.
MACLAREN'S TEAM.
The game between this State' and Mr.
A. C. MacLaren's English team is creatinig
great interest. Mr. MacLaren is recog
nised-inthe cricket world as a great team
builder. He fashioned the only:, side
which defeated Armstrong's Australian
Eleven in England, and it was a triumph
for the great Lancashire man, because.
*he had harshly criticised the building of
the test teams to represent the old !andi.
Thi.at .he has gathered together a very
likely side seems certain, and the men
will probably settle down to be a team of
great merit. The Hon. F. Drage. a son. of
Viscount Hampton, replaces Fowler, who,
at the last moment was unable to make the
trip. The Hon. F. Drage is an Eton man,
and a very capable player. In giving
notes on the team last Saturday I could
not find anything of J. IL [McLean. but
since learn that he is the wicketkeeper of
the side, and keeps 'for Worcester.. "He
only made an -appearance in county
cricket, during the last English season.
T. C. Lowry is his-understudy.
The En;iishmen will arrive, here to
morrow morning, and will be met at the
boat and motored up *to Perth. They
will be formally welcomed by the
W.A.4.A. at 230, and will then indulge
in practice, to burnish up form and find
their land legs. The game against W?est
ern Australia will commence at the
W.AV:C.A. Oval on Friday at4-oon. and
will be continued on Saturday at the
same time. A good programme-of enter
tainment has been arranged for the visi
tors. The charges for admission for the
watch will be:---Grandstand. 2s. 6d.; flat.
1s.. 6d.; lads to the flat. 1s. There is
plenty of seating accommodation on the
oval now, so that patrons need no: fear
having to stand to see the play.
The side to represent the State ' has
been finally, selected. Messrs. Edmond
son, Rowe, and Bott had chosen ten men
last Saturday night, and left the eleventh
and twelfth places open until after prac-.
tice last.evening. They then finalised the
team, putting in C. Fleay. of Katanning.
and making A. C. Randeil. of 'North
Perth, twelfth man. Fleay did wonder
fully well in the last Country Week com
petitions, and he is a sound bat. fine
fieldsman. and a change bowler. The
team to do battle for us now is:--L. C.
Bott (East Perth),A. M3eke (East Perth).
A. Evans (East Perth), R. Blundell
(East Perth), W. Stokes (North Perth).
F. Buttsworth (North Perth). V. Carlson
(Fremantle), D. Heindrichs (Fremantle),
C.. Howard (Subiaco). J. -Lanigan
('Moora). C. Fleay. (Katanning), with
A.. C. Randell (North Perth) 'twelfth
man.
mThe selected players will choose a man
for their captain, and submit the name to
the cricket committee for approval. Prac
tice takes place to-night, and .a full at
t'endance: of -the players is desired in order
that they: may select their leader.
Messrs.' Lawrance and Walker' have
been selected to umpire the game, and M?r.
Reg Elliott' is the official scorer. Mr.
Ferguson, who scored for the Australian
'Eleven in England: and in nearly all the
inportant games .in Australia has come
across from Sydney' to meet the Eng
ishmen, and he is to $coere for -them.
