Make This Beaded Jumper
BLACK BUGLE BEADS done in a
simple pattern on a plain yoke give a new finish to jumper.
MATERIALS: 6oz pink 3-ply super wool, 1 pr No 12 and 1 pr No 10 knitting needles, ½oz black bugle beads, yellow beads, 2 buttons.
MEASUREMENTS: Length from shoulder 18½in, length of sleeve 4½in, bust 34in. TENSION: 7 stitches and 9 rows to 1 inch. ABBREVIATIONS: K, knit; p, purl; m, make; tog, together,
BACK: Using No 12 needles, cast on 108 stitches, knit in rib for 3in. Cast on 1 stitch. Change to No 10 needles. Knit in pattern as follows:
1st Row: P 4, * k 5, p 7. Repeat from *, ending row with p 4 in- stead of p 7.
2nd and Alternate Row: Purl.
3rd Row: P 2 tog, * p 2, k 2, m 1,
k 1, m 1, k 2, p 2, p 3 tog; repeat from *, ending row with p 2 tog, in- stead of p 3 tog.
5th Row: P 2 tog, *-p 1, k 2, m 1, k 3, m 1, k 2, p 1, p 3 tog; repeat from *, ending row with p 2 tog, instead of p 3 tog.
7th Row: P 2 tog, * k 2, m 1, k 5, m 1, k 2, p 3 tog; repeat from *, ending row with p 2 tog, instead of P 3 tog.
9th Row: K 3, *p 7, k 5; repeat from *, ending row with k 3, in- stead of k 5.
11th Row: * K 1, m 1, k 2, p 2, p 3 tog, p 2, k 2, m 1; repeat from * till 1 remains, k 1.
13th Row: K 2, * m 1, k 2, p 1, p 3 tog, p 1, k 2, m 1, k 3; repeat from *, ending row with k 2, in- stead of k 3.
15th Row: K 3, m 1, k 2, p 3 tog, k 2, m 1, k 5; repeat from *, end- ing row with k 3, instead of k 5.
16th Row: Purl.
These 16 rows complete 1 pattern. Knit in pattern, increasing 1 stitch at each end of every 8th row till there are 121 stitches.
Continue knitting till there are 5 patterns from band.
SHAPE ARMHOLE: Cast off 7 stitches at the beginning of the next 2 rows, then decrease 1st at each end of every 2nd row 5 times (97
sts). Continue knitting till you have completed 7 patterns from band Knit 8 rows more.
Next Row: Pattern 25 sts, knit 47, pattern 25. Next Row: Pattern 25 sts.,
purl 47, pattern 25. Knit these 2 last rows 3 times more. Next Row: Pat- tern 25, k 24, with another ball of wool k 23, pattern 25. Knit with 2 balls of wool till 9 patterns are com- pleted from band. Knit 10 rows more.
SHAPE SHOULDERS: Cast off 8 stitches, at the beginning of the next 8 rows. Cast off remainder.
FRONT: Knit as for back until the 7 patterns from band are com- pleted. Knit 8 rows more.
Next Row: Pattern 25, k 47, pattern 25. Next Row: Pattern 25, p 47, pat- tern 25. Knit these last 2 rows till 9
patterns from band are completed. SHAPE NECK: Pattern 25, k 17, cast off 13, k 17, pattern 25.
Knitting with 2 balls of wool, de- crease 1 stitch at neck ends every 2nd row till 32 sts remain on each side.
SHAPE SHOULDER: Cast off 8 sts at the beginning of the next 8 rows (armhole end).
NECK BAND: Join shoulders. Pick up 96 sts around next on No 12 needles. Knit in rib for 5 rows. Change to No 10 needles. Knit in rib for 6 rows. Cast off loosely.
SLEEVES: Using No 12 needles, cast on 84 stitches. Knit in rib for 10 rows. Cast on 1 st Change to
No 10 needles. Knit in pattern as - for back, increasing 1 st at each
end of 8 rows 1 times.
SHAPE ARMHOLE: Cast off 7 stitches at the beginning of the next 2 rows, then decrease 1 st at each end of every 4th row 6 times.
Decrease 1 st at each end of every 2nd row till 47 sts remain. Decrease 1 st at each end of every row till 29 sts remain. Cast off.
TO MAKE UP: Press all parts on the wrong side with a hot iron over a damp bloth. Sew side seams, in- sert sleeves. Sew in shoulder pads.
With a bead needle work a design on stocking st yoke with bugle beads in form of flowers and leaves. Crochet 2 loops down 1 side of back
opening. Sew on buttons.
