THE STRENGTH OF THE CLUBS.
WHAT THE DELEGATES SAY.
Subsequent to the delegates meeting a
Si ar representative had a chat with sonic
of those who attended, aud obtained an idea
of how the teams will strip 011 the 1st of
•May, when the season opens.
THE BOULDER CITY CLUB
besides having the pick of the forty players
who last year battled so gamely for this
locality, will retain the services of Power,
Jackson, Metherall, <!. Coeks, Mitchell,
Brown, Williams, Alexander and Roberts,
who showed out so consistently last year.
Amongst the new men expected to play for
the amber and black are :—F. Rolfc, of
(Carlton), Suinpter (Fitzroy), Jas. McCormick,
J. Leckie (l'it/.roy), and J. Pender,
all well-known in Melbourne football.
THE HANNANS CLUB
were the premiers of last season. Death
has removed three of their leading players,
Messrs. Atherton, Doiiev and Chapman, aud
nearly a d07.cn others, including .1. (iuUau
and Rowe, have obtained work elsewhere,
and are not expected to strip for the old
club. Mr. McKen/.ie considers that the
Hannans twenty will not be a bad one when
the matches commence. He mentions P.
Lillis, au old Esseiidou man, Byficld, also
of lissendou, and H. J. Scott, as amongst
the latest acquisitions to the club, and states
that there arc several other well-known
players who will be amongst his men when
the'jiliy begins.
THE KAHiOORLIE IMPERIALS
have risen from the ashes of the
lately cremated Rover*. Jiui Olney,
the Ballarat player, who last year so
ablv captained the Rovers will be amongst
Ilieui again, and so will J. Tyson, Hvtua.i,
Stanley, M'Quarrie, Whelan, Mitchell, and
Banks (Fitzroy, brother of the famous
" Darkie Banks"),. Stevens and Hainian
(Walhalla), and R. Doran (S. Melb.), whilst
amongst the new blood are mentioned the
two (ieelong fliers Marino aud Pender. If
things so eventuate the Imps will have to
ljf reckoned with.
THE WHITE FEATHER,
At Kanowna football affairs have had an
exciting time during the past week, and on
Sunday lot) footballers rallied up to do
battle with two halls. Owing to another
club having been started the delegates could
not see how their (cams would muster, but
Mr. Stevens is of opinion that they will
liavc nearly all of their old team, whilst
amougst the new men he names Bailey
(Murchison), M. Bond (Hanuaus), Spcary
(Coolgardie), O'Driscoll (Melbourne), and C.
Graham, as likely to be thorns in a good
many sides during the next six months.
Their old captain, Billy Newlituds, who
some years ago shone in Ballarat aud St.
Kilda football, is still with tlieui, and intends
having another go at it this season.
THE KANOWNA CEMENTERS.
evidently do not fall in with the idea that
unity is strength. At any rate that is the
view of the White Feather party. But the
Cement inen urge that last year there were
only 700 uieu on the field, aud this year
there is such a large population that, a
second team can easily be kept going. The
delegates claim to have the stlpport of tkreo
fourths of the players on the field, aud they
mention the following prominent nieii who
have given their word and shown a very
live interest in the prosperity of the Cementers.
Their team will comprise a few men
from last season's twenty of the White
Feather, but besides these they have O'Couuell,
who last year captained the Mulgarric
district club in the north-cast, K. Rowell
(Hannans), Pym(Bardoc),Gray (Kaglchauk)
Dunphyand Tait-fl'addiugtoii), "Dookie"
.M'Kenzie, the famous Mclbournian.
The draw will take place during the week
ami will be prcscnLcd at the meeting next
week. It has been decided to have three
rounds of matches.
