Saxe-Coburg
Dies At 70
LONDON, March 7 (A.A.P.).-Karl Eduard, 70- year-old grandson of Queen Victoria and former Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, in Central Germany, died in Coburg yesterday after a long illness.
His father was the Duke of Albany, fourth son of Queen
Victoria.
Karl Eduard was educated at Eton and then served in the Prussian Army until 1900, when he succeeded to the Dukedom of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha.
He abdicated after the 1918 Armistice, and in the follow- year lost the title of Duke of Albany when George V commanded his name to be
struck from the rolls of Britains Lords Temporal.
Under Hitler he was a mem- ber of the Nazi Party, and held high honorary rank in several
German organisations.
