12-hour Tow After

Ship Drifts

After a 12-hour battle

against a heavy swell and southerly wind, the trawler Goonambee towed the 216-ton Samuel Benbow, also a trawler, into Sydney Harbour at about six o'clock last night.

The Samuel Benbow had been drifting helplessly for nine 'hours after a heavy fishing net fouled the propeller on Satur- day night.

The Samuel Benbow was fish- ing off the north coast of N.S.W. when she was struck by a severe

storm.

The storm caught her unex- pectedly with her nets still over the side. A sudden squall swung the stern around over the nets, tangling them over the propeller.

S.O.S. SENT

At 8.30 p.m. the Samuel Ben- bow radioed Sydney for help, and the Goonambee was directed to take her in low.

The Goonambee was return- ing from a fishing cruise and was about 150 miles north of the Samuel Benbow, li reached the drifting trawler at about 5 a.m.'
