TIMBER DRIVE HITCH.
SCENE FOR NEW FILM. Difficulties oí Starting Fall.
The atttmpt to start the drive in which thousands of trees were to fall' simultane- ously in the making of the film, "Tall Tim- bers," failed to-day. Another attempt will be made to-morrow.
At a given signal to-day, gelignite charges were set off in big trees on top of a moun- tain. It was expected that these trees, fall- ing on thousands of others which had been partly cut through, would send the whole of the trees crashing In a vast wave down the mountain side. The gelignite charges, how- ever, threw down only about seven big trees, which were not enough to start the drive.
Mr. Ken Hall, who Is directing the mak- ing of the film for Cinesound Productions, Ltd., and the members of the technical staff who are on the scene, were bitterly disap- pointed.
Several big trees, which had been tottering, crashed during the afternoon when a breeze sprang up.
To-morrow, a large quantity of explosives will be used in a further, attempt to start the drive. If the attempt again falls, the drive will be abandoned. Chances of success have been lowered by the falling of trees In spots which has left gaps In the drive.
