Challenge Cup between William Watson
and Sons and L. Stevenson and

William Watson and Sons and Paterson
Bay, Palmer, and Co. then commenced the
final match for the cup, and when the
stumps were drawn had succeeded in dieposing
of five wickets for 33 runs. The
game will be resumed to-day.
THE VOLUNTEERS,—The crack shots of
the St. Kilda battery met at the Sandridge
butts on Saturday afternoon last, to compete
for a handsome trophy presented bj
their surgeon, Dr. B. Bohertson. He con.
ditions are:—Two competitions, open to
the. whole battery, for the selection oj
twelve; one competition amongst that
twelve for the selection of/four; and a fina
competition by that four for ownership,
Banges, 200, 500, and 600 yards; men
shots at each. On" Saturday, Quartermaster-Sergeant
Whalley headed the list
with the veiy fine score of. 65 points, without
a miss. Sergeant Baymond being second
with 58 points to his credit, and only one
miss.
HANDBAXI..—At the Carlton Court , oa
Saturday there was some-good play. The
principal match was between Messrs. heland
and Parker, and Messrs. McNamara
and O'Meara. This match excited a lively
interest, and a little speculation was indulged
in by the onlookers. Messrs.
McNamara and O'Meara won the first and
third games by two and three aces respectively,
and Messrs. Parker and Ireland the
second by six aces. 'Thus it will be seen
that in the three games each side scored an
equal number of points. The evening was
wound up by a few muff matches, in which
Messrs. Ireland, Beid, Leahy, Shanahan,
and others took part.
PEDESTRIANISH.—A foot-race, which attracted
a good deal "of attention, toot place
in the Friendly Societies' grounds on Saturday,
for a trophy, value JBlO. The competitors
were J,- M. Christie, a well-known
amateur athlete, and Mahoney, the runner,
and the distance, was half a mile, Christie
receiving 40 yards start. Mr. Goodheim
acted as starter, and Mr. S. Waldock is
judge. Christie gained considerably daring
the first 700 yards, but on the heavy ground
Mahoney pulled up well. Christie, however,
was too good for him, and won afters
capital race by about four yards. The
time was stated to be 2min. 8|sec.
FLEMINGTON HUNT CLUB.—A meeting of
the members of the Flemington Hunt Club
was held at Goyder's Victoria Hotel on
Monday. Although the meeting was not &
full one, there were'enough present to proceed
to business. "Mr. J. B. Cowell was
voted to the chair, after which a worting
committee was formed, consisting of Messrs.
A. E. French, J. Grice, P. Glenister, P. Collins,
E. Goldspinck, J. Hearne, W. Lynck,
M. L. Pender, H. Smith, A. Wilson, J. B.
O'Brien; and the chairman, Mr. F. C.
Goyder, agreed to act as hon. secretary
item.) and treasurer, Mr. Samuel Waldocs
being again appointed master of the houadi.
It appeared that a balance is in hand to
open the season with. About 32 members
i had already enrolled themselves at fi^
guineas each. The list will probably reach
to 50 subscribers, which, with a reducrf
pack, will form a veiy nice little club. WJ
opening meet is to be on Saturday, the 23rd
inst.
FOOTBALL BULBS.—The adjourned meeting
