Rev. W. G. Hilliard Elected.
The Rev W G Hilliard, headmaster of Trinity Grammar School, was elected canon in St Andrew's Cathedral, at the adjourned meeting of the diocesan synod in the Chapter House, yesterday afternoon The vacancy was caused by the death of Bishop G A D'Arcy
Five candidates had been proposed for the vacancy In the chapter, Mr Hilliard receiving a clear majority of the votes cast
The four other candidates were the Rural Dean (the Rev Edward Walker), the Rev S H Denman, rector of St Clement's, Marrick- ville, the Rev W T Price, rector of St Alban's, rivedock, and the Rev Stephen Tay- lor, rector of Holy Trinity, Wentworth Falls

Mr Hilliard was rector of St Clement's, Marrickville, when, in 1929, he was appointed headmaster of Trinity Grammar School, a position he had previously held from 1913 to 1916. In the latter year he was appointed rector of St John's, Ashfield, where he con- tinued for 10 years, until accepting the living of St Clement's Besides his headmastership, the new canon is lecturer and assistant minis- ter at St Andrew's Cathedral He was lec- turer at Moore Theological College. Sydney, from 1011 to 1914 and was appointed honorary secretary to the committee for special religious Instruction in public schools In 1918.
