Tempe to East Hills.
The second and last section of the Tempe to East Hills railway, viz., Kingsgrove to East Hills, will be officially opened this afternoon. The first section was opened to traffic some time ago.
The new line is 10 miles 11 chains in length and the journey from Sydney to the ter- minus will be a distance of 15 miles. The cost is estimated at £700,000.
A feature of the work is the construction of a steel bridge, 202 feet in length, which spans the Salt Pan Creek. The bridge itself rests on concrete piers. The whole of the steelwork was fabricated at the railway work- shops at Chullora.
There are no level crossings along the route. Vehicle traffic will cross the line at various points either by overhead bridges of by subways.
The official opening ceremony will take place at East Hills this afternoon. Mr. W. M. Newey (president of the Tempe to East Hills Railway League) will cut the ribbon at 2.30 o'clock, and the official opening will be per- formed by the Minister for Local Government (Mr. McGirr), who will represent the Premier (Mr Lang).
