Deaths Number 48,337.

The following official summary of casual- ties to the A.I.F. up to the week ended June 15 was issued by the Defence depart- ment on Saturday:— Deaths, 48,337; miss- ing, 301; prisoners of war, 3,250; wounded, 132,775; sick, 71,802; casualty not specified, 213. Totals, 256,768. The figures of deaths, missing, prisoners, and casualties not speci- fied represent the actual net totals after all corrections have been made. The figures of wounded and sick represent the totals reported by cable message, and are in excess of the actual number of men affected, be- cause many are admitted to hospital more

than once.
