According to latest reports, the home of the Superintendent, Robert Henry Curry, was blown up, and his two children killed. The schoolhouse, store and Assistant Superintendent's house were then set alight.
After firing the large launch, Curry escaped in a smaller vessel, but returned, and was shot by a native.
