Despite nearly three years of war, racing in England has hiad another
successful season. The English flat racing season of 1941 concluded last
November and re-opened sit the end of last month. Racing took place
on 86 days, and die total amount distributed in stakes, excluding
place money, was £152^93, an increase of £17,812 compared with 1940.
The most successful owner was Lord
Glatiely. who won by a narrow mar
gin over Mrs. MacdonaldvBuchanan.
Third on the list was His Majesty the
King, with winners of just under
£6000 in stakes. Lord Portal was

Hyperion is at -the head of the winning
sires' list. He got so far ahead that
he left the others completely out

Hyperion is undoubtedly in a class
of his own as a sire. He looks like
being the most successful sire since
St. Simon, and there is no saying what
his progeny would have won in the
last two years had it not been for the
FREE HANDICAP.
A Free Handicap is issued tor two
year-olds and three-year-olds. The
Free Handicap for youngsters was to
have been decided this month, and the
Free Handicap issued for three-year
olds who contest the event as four
year-olds over 10 furlongs is to be
decided on May 5. The form of the
leading three-year-olds of last season
was assessed by Mr. A. Fawcett, when
issuing the handicap, as follows: Owen
Tudor, 9.7; Sun Castle, 9.3; Eastern
Echo, 9.1; Orthodox. 9.0; Commotion,

A three-year-old who is expected to
make considerable improvement is
Bahrain's half-brother Bakhtawar, by
Windsor Lad from Friar's Daughter,
owned by Miss Dorothy Paget. He is
a great horse, hut has been hard to
