KNIT A TODDLER'S JUMPER
There is never a time when a baby from one year to 18
months cannot do with a new jumper. Here is one in primrose wool,
and in one of the new simple designs, easy enough for the beginner to
knit.
MATERIALS. — 2½oz. of 3-ply crepe
wool (primrose shade), 1 pair No. 10
• needles. 1 pair No. 12 needles, 4 small
pearl buttons.
MEASUREMENTS.—Length from shoul
der, 12in.: width at underarm, I0½ in.;
length of sleeve with cuff turned back,
8in.
ABBREVIATIONS—K knit; p purl; tog
together; sts stitches.
The Front
With No. 12 needles, cast on 72 sts and
knit in rib of 1 plain, 1 purl, for 18
rows. Change to No. 10 needles.
Knit 2 rows in stocking stitch (increase
1 st in first row), 73 sts.
3rd Row.—K 1 *, p 3, k 1, repeat from
* to end.
4th Row.—P 1 «, k 3, p 1, repeat from
* to end.
Knit last 4 rows 6 times more. Omit in
crease in first row. Continue in stock
ing stitch until work measures 8in. from
commencement, ending with purl row.
Increase 1 st at both ends of needle in
1st row of stocking stitch <75 sts).
Shape for armholes by casting off 2 sts
at beginning of next 2 rows.
3rd Row.—K 2 tog, knit until 2 sts re
main, k 2 tog.
4th Row.—Purl.
Repeat 3rd and 4th rows twice more (65
sts).
Knit 4 pattern rows 5 times, commencing
on 3rd row and ending with 1st row
(23 rows altogether).
Next Row.—P 16, k 33, p 16.
Next Row.—K 1, p 3. k 1, p 3, k I, p 3,
k 1, p 3, k 33 *, p 3, k l, repeat from *
to end.
Next Row.—P 1, k 3, p 1, k 3. p 1, k 3,
p 1, k 39, p 1 *, k 3, p I, repeat from *
to end.
Next Row.—Knit to end.
Next Row.—P 16. k 3, cast off 27 sts, k
3, p 16.
1st Row Shoulder.—K 1, p 3, four times,
k 3.
2nd Row.—K 6, p 1, k 3, p 1, k 3, p 1,
k 3, p 1.
3rd Row.—Knit to end. Cast off.
Knit second shoulder to correspond.

The Back
This Is knitted the same as the front.
The Sleeves
With No. 12 needles cast on 44 sts and
knit in rib for 22 rows. Change to
No. 10 needles.
Knit 4 patern rows 5 times, increase 1 st
in first row. Continue in stocking
stitch, increasing 1 st at both ends of
needle in next and every 8th row until
57 sts are on needle. Knit until sleeve
measures 8in. with rib turned back half
way.
Shape top of sleeve by casting off 2 sts
at beginning of next 2 rows. K 2 tog
at both ends of needle every row until
45 sts remain. Cast off.
To Make Up
Press on wrong side with damp cloth and
moderate iron. Join shoulders for ½ in,
at armhole edge. Join side seams, also
sleeve seams, and insert with seam to
seam. Press all seams on wrong side.
Sew 2 buttons on each shoulder and
crochet loops on opposite side to cor
respond.
