Cosy Dressing-gown for Winter Wear
For 32in. to 34in. bust, any desired length.
Materials Required. — 30oz. four-ply wool,
and two pair No. 7 knitting needles, also
a short spare needle.
Abbreviations. — K, knit; p, purl; st,
stitch; t 4 f, twist four stitches for-
ward, slip 2 sts to spare short needle,
allow these to fall forward, k next 2 sts,
then k the 2 sts from spare; t 4 b, twist
four sts back, slip 2 sts to spare needle,
allow these to fall back, k next 2 sts,
then 2 sts from spare needle.
The Pattern:—
1st Row. — (K 4, p 2) repeat to end,
finish k 4.
2nd Row. — Knit.
3rd Row. — As row 1.
4th Row. — Knit.
5th Row. — As row 1.

Continue from 3rd row of pattern. Com-
plete this pattern, and work two more
full patterns to waist. Keeping con-
tinuity of pattern, increase one stitch
at each end of every sixth row, until
work is 1in. short of desired length.
Next Row. — K each fifth and sixth st
together. Finish with eight rows of
garter-stitch (k each row).
The gown will drop a little, so allow for
this when taking length.
FRONT: — Cast on 6 sts.
1st Row. — K 4, p 2.
2nd Row. — Cast on 6 sts, k 12.
3rd Row. — (K 4, p 2) twice.
4th Row. — Cast on 6 sts, k 18.
5th Row. — (K 4, p 2) three times.
6th Row. — Cast on 6 sts, k 24.
7th Row. — (K 4, p 2) four times.
8th Row. — Cast on 10 sts, k 34.
9th Row. — (K 4, p 2) five times, k 4.
10th Row. — As row 6 pattern, finish

Keeping continuity of pattern, increase 1
st at beginning of the 1st, 5th, 9th, and
13th rows in each pattern.
Keep armhole edge straight.
After working the pattern three times, and
having made 12 increases, there will be
46 sts. Shape armholes while still in-
creasing at neck edge as before. Make
eight increases on alternate rows. When
fourth pattern is complete there will
be 58 sts.
Next Row. — Cast on 12 sts at armhole
end.
Continue straight at this armhole edge,
but continue to increase at front edge
every fourth row until the side seam
Knitted dressing-gown. Help
corresponds with those of back to waist
line. Continue straight at front edge,
but increase for skirt at side seam every
sixth row until seam corresponds with
those of back to border.
Next Row. — Knit each fifth and sixth st
together.
Before working the garter-stitch border,
pick up sts along the front edge to
waist (1 st for each two rows). Using
a third needle, knit the garter border,
and when at corner k twice into the
end or corner sts of each needle.
Work the next and alternate rows without
increase. Cast off after working eight
rows.
LEFT FRONT is made to correspond.
Cast on 6 sts.
1st Row. — P 4, k 4.
2nd Row. — Cast on 6 sts, k 12.
3rd Row. — (P 2, k 4) twice.
4th Row. — Cast on 6 sts, k 18.
5th Row. — (P 2, k 4) three times.
6th Row. — Cast on 6 sts, k 24.
7th Row. — (P 2, k 4) four times.
8th Row. — Cast on 10 sts, k 34.
9th Row. — K 4 (p 2, k 4) five times.
10th Row. — As row 14 pattern, finish t 4
f, k 2.
11th Row. — K 2, p 2 (k 8, p 4), finish
k 6.
12th Row. — As row 16 pattern, finish
t 4 b, k 2.
Keep continuity of pattern, and work to
correspond with right front.
SLEEVES: —
Cast on 80 sts, work eight rows garter-st.
Next Row. — K twice into each fifth st
(96).
Work the 16 pattern rows through once.
K an extra row to bring cuff on right
side.
Continue to work the 16 pattern rows
until sleeve seam is desired length
(about 17 in. with cuff turned back).
Shape top. Decrease 1 st at each end of
every row until 28 sts remain. Cast
off.
COLLAR: —
Cast on 64 sts in pattern, keep one edge
straight, and decrease 1 st each alter-
nate row at other edge until 22 sts re-
main. Work seven patterns, then
increase 1 st each alternate row on
same edge as decreases were made, until
there are 64 sts again.
Do not cast off.
Next Row. - Pick up stitches along
straight edge. On third needle pick up
64 sts along cast-cm edge, then with
fourth needle work the eight garter
rows. Increase twice at each corner in
four alternate rows.
Cast off.
To Make Up: —
Press all parts lightly. Join side, sleeve,
and shoulder seams.
Insert sleeves with seams 1 in. to front of
side seams. Attach collar. The points
of collar to waistline. Finish with a
plaited girdle or cord made of wool and
finished with tassels or bobs.
