The M. F. C. versus the Banks.
It was several limes remarked while this
match was being played last Saturday on the
Melbourne ground,-than a more pleasant one
had never taken place, and many persons also
expressed surprise that when other clubs meet
the, same friendly feeling and good fellowship
are not exhibited. And although a more one
sided match was never seen, the representatives
of paper and bullion took their beating
in excellent humour, playing a fine mainly
game, taking their spills kindly, and sticking
to their work without flagging. There was no
groaning or hooting, no probability of a free
fight, and when a dispute occurred, the
umpire's ultimatum soon settled it. The MFC
were captained by Mr. H.C Harrison, the Banks by Mr. Dal. Campball. The wind was northerly blowing right across the play, so there was little advantage derived from it by either side. Of the play itself very little description is necessary, as the ball was kept nearly all the time close to the Bank's strong hold and although Grut was there to the fore, looking as determined as ever, he was powerless this time to keep it safe. Chance after chance of kicking a goal was obtained by Melbourne, until it seemed at last, as if it was a case of "how not to do it". First Fleming, then Ogilvy, obtained place kicks until it was impossible to keep count. There were some narrow sequeals before the verdict was obstained which at last was in favour of German. After revenging ends the ball, found its way very soon to the opposite end also, and in about twenty minute a second goal was obtained for Melbourne by Fleming, and the match was at an end, or, as a facetious spectator remarked - " a cheque had been presented which the United Banks

not 'been able to meet." However, as
they have ample resources, we hope a fresh
draft will be made for a repetition of so
pleasant & match at a short date.
