THE CHALLENGE CUP.
The first grand match of the season will be
played this day, on the Melbourne ground, the
Melbourne Football Club being the present
holders' of the trophy presented last season for
competition among the various football clubs
by the Athletic Sports Committee. It may be
remembered the cup was won by the Melbourne
in the concluding match of last season from
the South Yarra, after an excellent contest, the
winning goal having been kicked by Mr. Ire
land within a few minutes of the time ap
pointed for the cessation of the game. Two
good teams will take the field, the South Yarra,
we understand, having had most practice.
The kick-off will be at two p.m. sharp.
