The Ethel arrfi'ci in har usual flr-it-class order, and is smart and trim from kool to truck. Captain A. P. 0. Ross, her genial skipper, is still In com- mand, and bringo with him the samo ofllcors and crew as wore in tho vessel on hor last visit to this port. After discharging a qunntity of explosives tho Ethel will be berthed at the New

Wharf.

Whilo in London several Important altera- tions woro effected, tho barquo undergoing Lloyd's general survey. A new mlzzcnmost hns been stepped, the mnlnmest hns been litted. and a heel put on It Sho also sailed out with a now mniutopgallant yard, and sho is supplied with now wntcr tanks.

Had usual calms and S.W. monsoons till August li.. Picked up tho S.E. Trades, and crossed the Equator on 13th August In long. 25deg. W. The S.E. Trados proved to bo favourable. Sighted Trinidad Island in tho South Atlantic Ocean on August 20, From there till panning Tristan d'Acunha on September 2, had variamo winds, which delayed tho barque a good deal. Passed the Capo of Good Hope on September 12 ; and Cape Lcuuwiu on Octobor 3, The casting was run down botween the lldeg. and Ï3deg. parallels, willi strong W. and W.S.W. winllB, very often blowing wholo gales, and had very hoavy sea the whole way, tho wcathor all the time being very unsettled.
