1 ALLURING SWIM SUITS
The sun will shine on the' gayest ond brightest beachwear this summer Never before has there been such a varied array of vividness and smartness in the swim suits and their accessories now shown ,n
Melbourne shops
Before the hat weather ,s really with us it is wise to visit the stores and make yaur choice of bathing suit, ploy suit, shorts and o her accesTor.es Then when you wish to go down to the sea you will be
prepa ed, and you will enjoy your first visit more in new clothes
SWIM suits are so varied in
colour, design, material, and style that all tastes
can be satisfied
You may choose a telescopic suit, a two-piece design with fit- ting trunks, and brassiere top, one of the new styles with flared skirts, the half-skirted type, or those with no skirts at all, but simply snug-fitting trunks
TJSUALLY one particular colour
has the most popularity dur- ing the swimming season, but this year multi-coloured suits hold sway Beaches promise to be so splashed with colour that even a dull day would become bright and
vivid
Apart from the more usual colours of scarlet, bright green, navy blue, bright blue, black and white, there are many subtle shades used for the latest swim suits The cyclamen and petunia shades which have been so popu- lar for dresses and for make-up have found their way to beach
wear
Pastel pink and blue, soft yellow, rust, tan, japomca, char- treuse, and burgundy are all to be found among swim-suit colours, too
Coloured sails adorn this well fitting swim suit worn by Barbara Read (RKO Radio) Note the
contrasting shoulder straps
Cotton playsuits in varied colours, usually in gay patterns, serve also as swim suits. They are attractive, inexpensive, and comfortable. They are excellent for sun bathing, and dry quickly after being in the water.
Many of these have brassiere tops - as have most of this sea- son's designs - which are lined.
rpoWELLING is used for suits of
-1- two pieces-trunks and sep-
arate brassiere tops. The towelling is patterned in large designs in red, blue, or green.
Some of the towelling one-piece suits are made in romper effect, caught with elastic round the legs.
For those who are determined to become an even brown when sunbaking there are types of bathers which have boned tops so that shoulder straps may be slipped off the shoulders with comfort while the sun shines. This is an excellent idea, as strips of white, unburned skin look un- attractive with backless evening
gowns.
Woollen bathing suits are made in vivid colours, many of them patterned, and interwoven with lastex, making them snug-fitting. Some have a becoming ruched effect.
CïNE of the most novel patterns
in the ivoollen suits is the bridge pattern - spades, hearts, clubs, and diamonds in contrast- ing colours to the background.
A green suit, for instance, is patterned in black and red, while a deep blue has black and red bridge symbols. So the bridge fiend may feel quite at home on
the beach!
Wide flaring skirts are new, and make an odd contrast with some of the one-piece imported suits without skirts and made very briefly.
A satin finish characterises many suits, and is proving very popular. Some have a striped effect, others are plain, while another variety is self-patterned in intriguing designs.
Woven suits with a satin finish show designs of yachts, flowers, fish, dragons, capstans, and other marine effects. Some are so beau- tifully patterned that they are suggestive of lovely materials for evening gowns.
Unusual ornaments and zipp. fasteners trim many suits. Shoul- der straps are held in place by composition fishes or flowers, brassiere tops are finished with contrasting clips.
On these pages you see pictures
of various types of swim suits ; which.will appear this summer. ; They are the latest types worn by \ film stars in Hollywood, showing Í: that Melbourne is up-to-the- i minute in ils array of designs. 1
The striped satin-finished bath- I ing suit shows the effect of the 1 brassiere top, while the half-skirt I is plain and fitting. i
